Hello! If you know me, you probably know that I’m a big fan of an artist called “Jean-Luc Ponty”. I started listening to JLP’s music in high school, learning bits and pieces of his song on bass, piano, guitar, and drums. I enjoy picking up songs entirely by ear, but I have this problem where I can forget how to play a song if I don’t practice it for a while. And then I’d need to relearn it by ear, because there aren’t existing transcriptions or covers I can use as reference.

So, I want to get used to writing down my transcriptions of songs so that I can look back at them the next time I forget. For my first trascription, I’ve transcribed the intro to the song “Don’t Let the World Pass You By” by JLP from the “Cosmic Messenger” album.

PS; Ralphe Armstrong is a THOROUGHLY UNDERRATED bass guitarist. I haven’t ever hear him being mentioned by others, but his work on the Cosmic Messenger, Enigmatic Ocean, and the Live albums are absolutely stunning. I really recommend those albums for anyone who like jazz fusion and/or prog rock.
